Film presentation in groups of three or four.
Your presentation about a film or series related to disability and or series should be maximum 15 minutes. It should not be a French film.
The content will vary depending on the film, but must relate as much as possible to disability.
It can include some or all of the following IN YOUR OWN WORDS
a very brief summary of the story,
information about the disability
how the disability is dealt with in the film;
the message of the film,
whether or not the film is based on a true story or a novel
the preparation the actor(s) did to play the role,
what you think of the film,
a short clip to illustrate an aspect of disability shown in the film
I can lend copies of ‘Breathe’, ‘My Left Foot’ and ‘Rain Man’ otherwise you will have to find copies. Please tell me in the first class what film you will present.The presentations will be in class 2,3 or 4.
Evaluation
This is an oral presentation,so your communication skills will be evaluated.(speed,intonation,pronunciation,interaction with the audience) as well as the content.Please remember language when we present a subject the other people don't know must be simple and clear. Do not read or memorize long sentences from your research on the internet,using vocabulary and expressions the class will not understand.Don't hesitate to explain vocabulary and remember to check the pronunciation of key words.

Before the second class in S2 on Monday 5.2.24 you should read chapters 1 to 89 (68 pages) of 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime' by Mark Haddon. You can find a pdf on line or buy the book in English. If you download the free application for kindle and buy the book in English for kindle, so that it is sent to your computer or telephone, you can choose to have 'wordwise' enabled. You then have synonyms and an English dictionary entry to help you with difficult wordsWe will use the chapterst from 'A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime' as a reference,not the page numbers. There are some short quizzes I have made . YOU MUST READ THE CHAPTERS BEFORE DOING THE QUIZZES.. FOR QUESTIONS ABOUT VOCABULARY AND EXPRESSIONS I WILL GIVE THE CHAPTER REFERENCES AND YOU CAN USE A DICTIONARY. You can do the tests once,but you have plenty of time. You should complete the quizzes before the class. . You will also need to have read chapters 1-89 before the class, in order to be able to participate!

In class 2 we discussed the first part of the book up to chapter 89 in particular what Christopher can and can't do and what he likes and doesn't like.We watched the trailer and interview with people who had seen the show based on the book and which millions have seen. We noted the adjectives used to describe the show and students spoke about concerts and shows they had seen,which had marked them.Some students presented films.
You need to continue reading until chapter 179 and do the quizzes and tests for class 3.

Before class 4 you must finish reading the book and do the quizzes for the last part of the book. In class 4 we will decide which part of the play version you will act out in groups.-

An Oscar winning animated film with the message'The real kindness is when you are willing to give up something you need.We wrote summaries of this video in class. Here is a model example.
An old man was standing in a train,because he couldn’t find a seat.A young woman gave him her seat.The man didn’t want help,he was proud.They both had a long journey of about 6 hours.The old man thanked her and accepted the seat. The young girl had to hold onto a rail for the rest of the journey.The ticket collector and arrived and asked for the tickets.The old man only had a ticket to stand and the girl had a seat.The ticket collector was surprised , but the girl said sshh.He offered her another seat in the next carriage. The girl took her crutches and started to move.The other passengers were shocked and embarrassed. The message was always help others in need

Homework.
1 Work on the grammar of can, could, be able to by watching the two simple English videos and doing the exercises from Anglais facile.com
2. Watch again the video watched in class about Theo, before watching one of the videos about Archie Alexandra, Phoebe or Robbie. I told you in class which video to watch.Take notes about the person, so that you can speak about the person in the next lesson. The front two rows of class should come to class 2 at 15h and the others at 16H

The maximum mark for a student of a B1 level is 13 and 8 for A2.This is because you are supposed to have a B2 level at the end of your studies.
Continuous assessment(There are two classes where you come for one hour,to give you extra time for the moodle work) Class 2 is the first.

In class 3 we worked on superhumans . For class 5 you will make a recording about one of the short videos in this section .They are people we saw in the video What it means to be superhuman. .Here is the video we worked on during the THIRD class.There is a quick quiz on it,not difficult at all,because we did it orally in class. For class 4 you need to come for one hour to present a Ted talk.In class three we watched the Ted talk 'The Sore problem of prosthetic limbs'(see the booklet). For Class 4you must prepare a short presentation on a Ted talk related to disability.TRY NOT TO HAVE THE SAME SUBJECT AS THE OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR GROUP.

There are lots of Ted Talks about disability.
Please choose one to watch and be ready to give a simple summary in class your own words .(2/3 minutes) I gave you an example in class.(see below) You must speak using just a few notes with key words.You should explain any technical words to the class. Tell us simply the title of the video you watched,who the presenter is,what his/her disability is or what disability he/ she is speaking about and what the message of the talk is.DO NOT USE LONG SENTENCES COPIED FROM THE SCRIPT OF THE VIDEO.Explain any difficult words. Try to avoid doing the same video as the others in your group.Keep it simple. You will be judged on how easy it is to understand you without watching the video.For group A I have posted the names and titles on the forum. For group B just send me an email with your choice. If someone has the same time and title already I will tell you.

Here is my summary of the video.
•I watched the Ted Talk by David Sengen .He is not disabled but comes from from Sierra Leone.He saw the effect of the war in the 1990’s .He and his family had to run away from the fighting.There were many amputees in his country with uncomfortable prostheses or no protheses,because they couldn't afford one. He thought to himself that there must be a way of helping these people.•He went to the US to study.He met Hugo Herr a climber and professor with prosthetic limbs. He did a PHD under Hugo Herr at MIT institute. He designed custom prosthetic sockets using magnetic resonance imaging and a 3D printer . His prosthetic limbs were very comfortable , cheap and successful.•His message is he believes disabled people anywhere must have the opportunity to live a meaningful life. -
Before class 5 you are going to watch a very short video about one of the participants in the commercial 'We're the superhumans.' You have subtitles to help.You choose one of the four videos. This time you are going to summarize the video and record your text and post it. FOR 13.11.You can use expressions from the video, but you must link the ideas yourself and put the context, so that they make sense. Try to use your own words as much as possible, if you want a good mark.It will help to imagine that you are telling someone about it, who doesn't know about the advertising campaign 'Yes I can' and who hasn't seen the video.Try to make your recording about 2 minutes by explaining the background to the channel 4 commercial for the Rio Paralympics . When you record your text pay attention to the word and sentence stress as you will be mostly evaluated on this. Post your work on the moodle.
Your teacher has recorded a short example based on Jonatha Bastos the Brazilian pianist in the film.I have not included the part explaining the background to the campaign.

In this section you will find documents related to the film 'Unrest' THE POSTER IS FROM 2019 This year we will watch the Ted talk by Jennifer Brea in class 5 and part of the film. In class 6 we will finish watching the film and you will immediately do a short piece of writing about it.The film is available on You Tube if you are not in class you should Watch the first 30 minutes before class 6 or you can make an appointment to watch it in the resource centre E118. In class 6 we will finish watching the film and you will write Something about it.
There is also a quick grammar test on points seen in the other sections. You may wish to revise the grammar from section one and five before doing the test. You only have 20 minutes and one chance to do the test. Sometimes more than one answer is correct! Each person will have the questions in a different order.
